Schatzie Schaefers was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Theatre from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 1995. While at UAA, Schatzie appeared in numerous productions including Richard III as Lady Anne, and Grease as Sandy. After college, Schatzie immediately launched her career in morning radio while continuing to act in local productions such as Fat Men in Skirts, Dracula, and Independence. In 1998, her radio career took her to North Carolina where she appeared in small professional productions of A Lie of the Mind and Fuddy Meers. After several years away, Schatzie returned to Anchorage in 2003 where she has continued to work in radio, act, and write, produce and direct her original plays. Her evening of one-act comedies entitled Fourplay premiered at Cyrano’s Off-Center Playhouse in downtown Anchorage in the fall of 2004 to crowded houses and critical acclaim. The TiVo Tribe was named Best New Play of 2004 on public radio station KSKA’s “Stagetalk.” Schatzie is a regular participant in Alaska Overnighters, where plays are written, rehearsed, and staged in the space of 24 hours.
